RECRUITING MEMBERSHIP TRAINING

Veterans of Foreign Wars of Wisconsin and Auxiliary

Recruiting, Membership and Programs Training

Calling all members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Wisconsin and Auxiliary for a Recruiting, Membership and Programs Training Event.  This training will be conducted by National Veterans of Foreign Wars Service Officer (PACT ACT Information), Quartermaster and Training and Deputy Director of Membership Rick McKenna. They will be assisted by State Chaplain William (Bill) Knudson, State Service Officer Mitchell Woytych, Membership Chairman Leroy Jansky, and Training Chairman Charlene Cobb.

Due to numerous requests for training from members of the VFW and Auxiliary as I was advancing to the State VFW Commanders position, I reached out to Commander-in-Chief Tim Borland and Deputy Director McKenna for their suggestions on how to provide training in the most efficient, cost effective, and productive way.  Comrade McKenna called me and suggested we try to accomplish training similar to what took place in Tennessee last year.  He stated that the VFW of Tennessee training was very successful and they saw a lot of benefits from a four-day training session across their state.  So, let me explain how this will work.

Four different VFW Posts and Auxiliaries will host the National and State Training Team (NSTT) for VFW and Auxiliary members on four different dates and locations.  Anyone who wishes to attend, is encouraged to do so at the locations listed below or via a Zoom meeting.  I would encourage those who plan to attend to do so in person for the full experience of the training atmosphere and camaraderie.  VFW members who attend in person will be placed in a special drawing once the four-day training is completed.  They could win an upgrade in their membership status. An annual member, will be upgraded to Life; if already a Life Member they will be upgraded to a step in the Legacy Life Program.  If already Gold Legacy member; the equivalent amount of money will be awarded for use in the VFW National Store or you may offer the upgrade to another VFW member to upgrade their membership.

As a reminder for District Commanders: please pass this information on to all Post and Auxiliary members.  You are also encouraged to have 75% of your Districts Posts in attendance at one of the four days to count as one of the two District Training sessions required.  You or your Post members may choose which day works better for the best attendance. Inspire your Post and Auxiliary members to attend in person for the full effect of the training.

As a hint to every VFW Post Commander, I suggest you encourage as many of your Post Officers and members to attend as possible.  This training will help your Post and if you have an Auxiliary, please invite them to attend as well.  At the end of the day, everyone will understand the programs of the VFW better including, Recruiting, Service Officer position, and Quartermaster responsibilities and special events of the VFW.  This is also an All-State Award requirement if your Post has set that goal for this membership year.

Each location will be providing a meal at the location for a cost, I would suggest each Post offer a stipend for the meal for those who attend in person, as a "thank you" for attending.  The meal information will be provided on the vfwwi.org website.  Any questions please call the State VFW Headquarters at 608-221-5276, for further information.
