Steve Eisenhauer is a second-generation sailor serving in the United States Navy Submarine Service from 1982 – 2004. Following initial basic training, he was assigned to the USS James K. Polk (SSBN 645) Gold crew. During his time onboard, he made two strategic deterrent patrols, earning his eligibility for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
During his career he served as a Radioman and earned his commission as a Submarine Communications Limited Duty Officer. He also served aboard the USS Dolphin (AGSS 555), a Deep Submergence Research and Development submarine, and the USS McKee (AS 41). Steve’s shore command tours included Commander, Submarine Forces U.S. Pacific Fleet, United States Atlantic Command, United States Joint Forces Command, and United States Strategic Command.
Joining the VFW in 2019, Steve is a Gold Legacy Life Member of Lt. Marion C. Cranefield VFW Post 1318 in Madison. He is currently serving his second term as Post Commander, achieving All-State and All-American honors in 2023-2024. This is his first term as District 2 Commander.
Additionally, he is the WI VFW liaison to the USS Wisconsin SSBN 827 Association and a founding member of the Submarine Advisory Group. A resident of Cottage Grove, Steve is also our State VFW Assistant Adjutant/Quartermaster.
