About Frank N. Brown
Frank grew up in Eagle River. He graduated high school in 1934. He enrolled to college at Eau Claire where he was the first of his family to attend college where at first received his "Rural Teaching Certificate”. He taught in a one room school for five years in Vilas County. After enlisting in the Army Air Corps and returning from the war he completed a bachelor’s degree. When he moved his family to Fort Atkinson he attended UW-Madison and earned his master’s. Frank was hired by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in 1955 and moved to Sun Prairie. In 1965 when the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was passed, he was appointed administrator for the Wisconsin program, and the needs of disadvantaged children became his professional career commitment until he retired in 1983. Frank was a devoted member of the VFW for 65 years.
The principles illustrated by Frank’s life:
1. For a child not born into money, education is key to rising above poverty and realizing dreams.
2. It’s not enough to just believe in something… one must devote one’s time and energy in support of that belief.
