Gundel Metz
National Council Member - Army

Gundel Metz served for 20 years in the United States Army, 1975-1995. She achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class—E-7. Before and after the Army she worked for the State of Wisconsin. First as a Clerk Typist with Civil & Environmental Engineering and after her military career with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs as a Benefit Specialist. She worked with homeless and incarcerated veterans and was the Women Veterans Coordinator. She assisted veterans in getting their medals, records, and if possible, discharge upgrades. Gundy has a Bachelors degree from Austin Peay State University in Public Management and completed some graduate studies in Public Administration from the University of Maryland— European Division.

Since becoming a Life Member of VFW Post 1318 in Madison in 1997, Gundel Metz has held numerous elected and appointment positions at all levels in the VFW.  She was elected Post Commander 2001-2002 (Captain All State Team and All American Post) and Post Quartermaster since 2009.  She was the Dane County Commander from 2002-2004 (Captain County All State Team 2003-2004).  She was the Second District Commander in 2006-2007.  She held numerous positions at the Department of Wisconsin level culminating with her being elected the State Commander for 2018-2019 (All American Department).  Gundy has held various appointments at the VFW National Level.  In 2019 she was elected as Wisconsin’s National Council Member for four years (2019-2023).
